Affordable housing is about more than the cost of building a home. The energy costs residents face after moving in matter too. Greenfoot Energy Solutions is proud to be part of several affordable housing projects across Nova Scotia that bring energy efficiency and renewable energy into the conversation.
Solar and insulation in New Minas
On a completed affordable housing project in New Minas, Nova Scotia, Greenfoot worked with rcs construction and provided both solar and insulation work. The two measures address different parts of a building's energy picture: insulation helps reduce unwanted heat loss, while solar panels generate electricity from sunlight.
Keeping the initial cost of a home manageable is important. So is considering what it will cost to operate over time. Solar can help offset electricity purchased from the grid; insulation can help reduce the energy needed to keep indoor spaces comfortable. Actual savings depend on the building, its energy use and the system installed.
Projects like this show how energy efficiency and renewable energy can be part of building more affordable communities, beyond the day the keys are handed over.
