GEOTHERMAL Heat Pumps

What is a geothermal heat pump?

A geothermal heat pump is a central heating and cooling system that uses the earth as a heat source in the winter and a heat sink in the summer. Geothermal heat pumps are loved by their owners because of their high efficiency and low maintenance. Being by far the most efficient way to heat and cool your home available today.

Geothermal heat pumps are the most efficient way to heat your home.

You will not believe the efficiency of a geothermal heat pump! The facts are that geothermal heat pumps are 400% more efficient than traditional home electrical baseboards. For every dollar you pay in electricity, you can spend up to four dollars in usable heat energy. That means savings up to 75% on your home heating costs. That’s unreal!

“We don’t have enough land where we live…”

No problem! Our Greenfoot drilling team installs vertical closed loop bore holes which means that we can drill in almost any residential application with very low landscaping repercussions compared to horizontal loop fields. We have even drilled in downtown Moncton Main St.!!!

“Geothermal is way too expensive and will never pay back…”.

We get this comment at every home show when we discuss geothermal heating & cooling systems and people are often left speechless when they find out how much less these systems costs compared to what they originally thought. If you think about it, the only difference between a central air source ducted heat pump and a Geothermal ducted heat pump, is the drilling and some pumps. Most Geothermal systems, if sized properly will cost on average 30% more than its air source heat pump cousin but its benefits are worth it!

“Why should I choose Greenfoot for my Geothermal system?”

There are a few reasons why you should choose Greenfoot over the competition:

1 - With each Geothermal comes a full Heat loss/gain calculation to determine the size requirements for the home or building which should be STEP 1 in any system design according to the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) design standards. This service is included in your package. Is your heating contractor doing this heat loss calculation or are they simply “ballparking” it?
2 - After we determine the sizing needed, we then size your system per CSA C448 standards and follow CGC installation practices. Your system will perform like it was meant to.

3 - Greenfoot has Red Seal certified HVAC technicians on staff and also has a drilling team which means we do not sub-out our installs making your system as cost effective as possible.

4 - Greenfoot also has a ductwork team that have performed hundreds of installs making the entire process a turn key operation.

5 - You might just get a chance to meet Greenfoot in person. Isn’t that good enough? ;)

“We have an existing oil furnace and are thinking of upgrading to a Geothermal system. Can you convert from Oil to Geothermal?”

YES OF COURSE!

The first step is to have one of our energy advisor estimators go out to your home and perform a heat loss calculation to see how big of a system you would need and then to assess the existing ductwork sizing. We would also look at your yard to see if drilling could be performed. From there, we will provide you with a full turn key estimate on converting your current heating system to Geothermal.

“We have an oil-fired boiler system with hot water baseboards. Can you convert this to Geothermal?”

In most cases, hot water baseboards require high temp. heat sources and typical Geothermal systems are usually considered low temp. To convert this system, we can either install a HIGH temp. Geothermal water/water heat pump and use the existing baseboards as your delivery system. This option limits you to only heating.

Another approach would be to decommission the baseboards and install low temp. fan coils which will give you heating & cooling.

In any case, our energy advisor estimators can give you all your options for this scenario during the complimentary in-house consultation.
